Summer of Scrubbies 2025 KAL Yarn Recommendations
Here you will find yarn recommendations for ALL of the promised eight (and one BONUS!) Summer of Scrubbies 2025 KAL patterns.
Recommended yarn is what will be in one (or more) of the patterns by brand name and yarn line. I am including similar yarn types so that you can substitute more easily as needed.
Each pattern takes anywhere from 5-24 yards/5-23 meters of yarn, depending on which size you choose to knit. Most patterns include 3 or more sizes. If you choose to knit more than one of each pattern, you should purchase yarn according to how many scrubbies you wish to make.
On page 3, I have given yarn recommendations based on yarn type, rather than brand name and yarn line. These substitutions have not been tested, but should work based on yarn structure and weight. For these, I have combined the number of patterns that will utilize that “type” of yarn. In addition I included the minimum amount of yards/meters needed based on you knitting only one size per pattern.
Please note: there may be bonus patterns that have a different yarn than what is listed here. I will regularly update this section so that you can have the most up to date information possible. Last updated 4.22.2025

Yarn Type Recommendations

Basic Scrubby Yarn
A center ply with “hairs” made of the same material coming off of the plied center. Examples are: Jubilee Yarn Scrubby Dish, Loops & Threads Squeaky Clean, Red Heart Scrubby, Yarn Bee Scrub-ology Cotton.
This type of yarn is used in three of the scrubby patterns and will use approximately 15-60 yards in total to knit one size in each of the three patterns. To cover all the patterns that use this type of yarn you will want to select at least 2 colors, at least one should be a solid color.

Sparkly Scrubby Yarn
A center ply with sparkly “hairs” made of a different material coming off of the plied center. Examples are: Loops & Threads, Squeaky Clean Sparkle, Jubilee Yarn Sparkle Dish Yarn, Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle and Yarn Bee Scrub-ology 2.0
This type of yarn is used in three of the scrubby patterns and will use approximately 15-60 yards in total to knit one size in each of the three patterns. You will want to select at least 2 colors.

Spongy Scrubby Yarn
An inner foam core covered in a mesh fabric. Examples are: Jubilee Spongy Dish Yarn and Yarn Bee Scrub-ology Scrub It!
This type of yarn is used in one scrubby patterns and will use approximately 5-20 yards in total to knit one size in each of the three patterns. You will want to select at least 1 color.
Other Yarn Recommendations

For the patterns that use Rico Creative Bubble, there really are not any similar types for that other than the sparkly yarns. However, the Rico Creative Bubble is a weight 2 yarn, compared to most sparkly yarns that are a weight 4. You may choose to substitute, but remember that the quantity of yarn and the finished object size may be different. Rico Creative Bubble is used in one pattern and will use approximately 7-25 yards.

For the patterns that use Herrschner’s, there really is not a similar type of scrubby yarn to it. If you would like to not use Herrschner’s you may choose any yarn, including a regular cotton dish yarn. Select at least 2 colors, and think fruit colors for a rind and fruit center. Herrschner’s yarn is used in two patterns and will use approximately 12-40 yards.
