With that out of the way, let’s get into the Classic Circle Scrubby pattern!

Worked flat, the pattern begins with your favorite quick cast-on, followed by a series of short rows, and finishes with Kitchener Stitch for a seamless look. Whether you’re knitting for personal use or to sell, this pattern is a joy to create.

Materials

Yarn recommendations

Loops & Threads, Squeaky Clean Sparkle, fiber content: polyester 100%; 3 oz/85 g; 174 yards/159 meters, or any yarn that knits to gauge. 

Sample used
⅛, (¼, ⅜) oz/3.5, (7, 11)g; 7, (14, 21) yards/6.5, 13, 20 meters; 1 ball in Chili colorway. 

Knitting needles
US size 8/5 mm, or size used to match gauge – straight or circular as you prefer. 

Notions

Stitch marker (for RS fabric), scissors, tapestry needle.

Gauge

19 sts x 26 rows over 4″/10 cm in garter stitch worked flat.

18 sts x 24 rows over 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch worked flat

It is not necessary to match gauge for this pattern. If you knit with a different  gauge from that in the pattern, your Classic Circle Scrubby will end up a different finished width and this will affect the amount of yarn needed. If you are a loose knitter you may want to go down one or two sizes to a smaller needle. If you are a tight knitter you may want to go up one or two sizes to a larger needle.

Classic Circle Scrubby: A Free Scrubby Knit Pattern Instructions

Pattern Notes

• Create a slipknot for your first CO st. You will use this later when grafting.
• Wedge knitting instructions for size S will skip Rows 7 and 8 and will be noted as “k0”. 
• If you did not knit a gauge swatch or are using yarn other than the recommended yarn, you may find that you need to knit additional wedges to get your scrubby to lay flat. Proceed with repeating Wedge Knitting Rows 1-10 until your fabric is almost a closed circle when laid flat. Then proceed to Final Wedge Knitting instructions depending on size. 
• If your CO tail end is in the center ONLY. At the end of Row #9, when working the w&t around the center CO st, bring CO tail end over the working yarn to the front of your work. This way you will wrap both the center st and the tail end yarn making it easier to close and weave in ends when you have finished knitting. 

Techniques Used

Wrap and turn

1. Knit the number of sts as indicated by the pattern. 
2. Bring the working yarn forward (yfwd). 
3. Slip 1st purlwise, (sl1p). 
4. Turn. Your working yarn is now in the back. 
5. Slip 1 st purlwise to the LH needle (do not twist the st, whichever way you slipped it, slip it back the same direction).

Continue knitting as directed.

Kitchener Stitch for Grafting the First and Last Row Together

Prepare to Graft

1. Measure a length of yarn 4-5 times longer than the length of the edge you will graft. Place the tail end on a tapestry needle and follow the steps below.
2. With the wrong sides facing each other holding knitting needles parallel. 

Set-up Stitches

The set-up only occurs on the first st of each needle. After you complete set-up, work the remaining sts in Kitchener Stitch. You may view LaVisch Designs Kitchener Stitch for garter stitch fabric here. 

1. On the needle closest to you: insert your tapestry needle as if to p and pull your yarn through. Do not let the st drop off the needle.
2. On the needle furthest from you: insert your tapestry needle as if to p and pull the yarn through. Do not let the st drop off the needle.

When the set-up sts are complete, follow these next 4 steps until 2 sts remain on your knitting needles. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 above to remove all sts from your needles. Be sure to check your tension throughout this process. The gauge of your Kitchener Stitch should match the gauge of your knitting so as to make it invisible.

Grafting

1. On the needle closest to you: Insert your tapestry needle into the first st, as if to k, pull the yarn through and let the st drop from your needle.
2. On the needle closest to you:  insert your tapestry needle into the next st, as if to p and pull the yarn through, but do not slip this st from the needle.
3. On the needle furthest from you: insert your tapestry needle through the first st, as if to k, pull the yarn through and let the stitch drop from your needle.
4. On the needle furthest from you: insert your tapestry needle through the next st, as if to p and pull the yarn through, but do not slip this st from the needle.
